Small Group Activity
15 min
This activity involves a handout that gives 5 different scenarios of college students and using their health insurance. These scenarios include terminology such as deductibles, out-of-pocket, co-insurance, insurance type and etc. Each group will work together to come up with the best solution for each scenarios based on the knowledge they just learned in the "insurance basics presentation".Â
(A cheat sheet will be made for facilitator)
Large Group Discussion

A debrief will happen as a large group discussing the activity and how students feel about the knowledge they have learned. The following questions will be asked:
Which scenario was the hardest to work through?
Did other people in your group have a different way of solving the scenario?
Did you find it beneficial working with other students through these scenarios?

Public Relations
Press Release
A press release will get submitted and sent out to WIU connections. This way it will go into the WIU news and be blasted to local neighborhoods regarding the intervention.
Flyers
A flyer will be made and posted to all the buildings on WIU campus. Flyers will also be posted to local businesses in town so Macomb knows the education that is being provided.
Social Media
A graphic will be created and posted on the host site's social media. WIU's social media personnel will be contacted as well so it can be posted on WIU's personal social media for a bigger audience.
Tabling
This can be done at multiple locations to meet the targeted audience. Not only tabling throughout the week but getting a table at discover western events.
Announcements
At Western Illinois University, on Monday's they have announcements that can be submitted. These announcements go to everyone at the institution.
Difficulty and Potential Barriers
Due to insurance being a topic of complexity, the level of difficultly could vary from person to person. On a scale of 1-10, this program can be rated a 7. This can be from a lack of prior knowledge and learning an extensive language in a short period of time.

Since this is a topic with a ton of information, a barrier could be having students grasp the basic concepts. Also, presenting it in a way that is understandable to someone who does not know anything about insurance.
